I Wish Manufacturers Wouldn't Do This, Part 2 . . .

WEAK KIT SHROUD LINES!

They easily break when you give these strings a tug.

I often replace the kit supplied shroud lines with #10 cotton embroidery string. You can buy a large spool at a craft store.
Try to break cotton embroidery string! Go ahead, I dare 'ya!

  1. Indeed -- and if you need to redo the shroud lines, it defeats the purpose of the pre-assembled parachutes.

    1. "It defeats the purpose of the pre-assembled parachutes." Exactly!

  2. Would there be any benefit to run the cotton shroud material through a block of beeswax to lay down the fuzzies? I mean a very light coat, not enough to make them sticky.

    1. Hi Augendoc,
You could run the cotton through beeswax, it may make the line a bit stiffer and might cut down on the fuzzies. I haven't really noticed any fuzziness in the cotton lines. I used to run ship model rigging through beeswax to make the lines waterproof, so they wouldn't sag over time.

    2. Cotton lines also have a little of stretch to them giving them some shock absorption.
