The two balsa plugs are to be sanded to "bullet nose" shapes. The curvature starts 3/8" from the top of the plug.
I wrapped some card stock around the plug 3/8" from the top and drew a line around the plug.
At the top of the plug I drew a circle for a sanding reference line. The small circle is used as a gauge t0 help keep the plug round.
Using 220 grit sandpaper on a bock, the edge was carefully taken down, using the drawn circle on the top to keep the sanding depth even all the way around.
After I got close to the correct contour, I switched over to a piece 400 grit paper and sanded by hand.
On the left is a shaped nose "bullet" next to an original marked plug.
