Earlier I had glued the SRB nose cones in place using very little glue.
This was for good reason.
They were lightly glued to the SRB assemblies just for the contour sanding to the main body tube shape.
With the light gluing, the nose cones were easily separated (broken free) from the SRBs.
I'll paint the nose cones gray off the model, then glue them back in place for clean color separation lines.
Those nose cones would be very hard to mask and paint later.
Note: This "nose cone gluing and breaking free for painting" is not in the instructions. This is just another way to get color separations without masking the curved ends of the SRB nosecones.
Glue was only set on the stiffeners and not on the SRB body tube edges - yet.
Look closely at the picture and you can see a strip of masking tape set around the end of the body tube for alignment of the SRB rear edges.
Do your best to center the SRBs evenly between the fin slots.
I found some rubber bands that would lightly hold all SRBs in place without distorting their shape while the glue dried.
