On the left is the first try with the 1/8" thick fins. On the right is the laminated 3/16" thick basswood.
The 1/16" thickness difference gives better definition of the wedge shape especially down the high center line.
All three fins finished -
Whew!
These took a while to shape but the finished look is worth the time.
The new shaped basswood fin weighs .07 oz.
The original 1//8" thick balsa fin weighed .02 oz.
I know weight on this model is critical and could effect stability.
I may have to increase the nose weight by .15 oz.
Here's the new fin on an old fin vane pad piece.
I'll be reworking the vane pads in the next post.
