  1. I see fun build threads in the future. :)

Just started on my Quinstar, still prepping balsa debating what to (eventually) do with the motor mount.

  2. I just ordered a Little Joe yesterday and have a Quinstar in the build pile. I just need to finish the kid's square rockets and my Fliskits Corona, then the Little Joe will be my next low/mid power build.

  3. To Neil and Metalhead,
I'll tackle the Quinstar from this order first. I might adapt them for 24mm engines. Only 150 feet seems like a waste of an C engine. I don't know, the 1/16" thick balsa could shred with a D in them. Everything looks pretty well supported though.

    1. I've been wondering the same thing. I was thinking an E9 might be a really good choice for this one, long burn and not too much thrust. But I dunno if I'm interested in discovering the "speed of balsa" with this one. I might put a 24mm mount in, but use C6-0's (I have a pack ready to go) in an adapter until I get brave.

    2. Hi Neil,
The 24mm conversion is easier than you would think.
I'll be doing the same thing as you - 18mm to start in a removable mount. Then the 24mm if I think the balsa can take it.

  4. I will be very interested in seeing how the 24mm motor mount goes, as this would be something I would like to do. In fact, the Quinstar would be a really cool upscale made from plywood with a 29mm motor mount. You now me Chris, more power. :) Now, if only someone would make a Rocksim or OpenRocket file for it, if that is even possible.

    1. Hah, forget OpenRocket, and I doubt Rocksim has this kind of capability either. Building an upscale out of plywood would be an interesting exercise with a laser cutter, although controlling the weight would be an issue.

    2. Metalhead,
The 24mm conversions was actually pretty easy. The way I built mine (coming up on the blog) the 18mm mount can just be glued into the BT-50 tube if I chicken out on 24mm. I think the finished model could take the stress. I'll launch mine with C6 engines a few times before trying the D12.
