Hi Neil, Agreed! Masking around the cardstock support pieces would be tought. I want a smooth finish on the shuttle surfaces but that might add too much weight and effect the glide.
One thing I haven't figured out about it yet is what motors it uses? The inventory picture shows the 29mm screw on motor retainer, yet the prep for flight page mentions D12 and E12 motors, both of which are 24mm motors. The motor mount tube had Estes new part numbering on it, so it's not very clear if it is 24mm BT50 or 29mm BT52.
Hi Lester, You studied the instructions more than I did! By the web page description I would assume it is a 24mm. Soon as somebody starts posting a build we'll know more. The parts inventory does say 29mm motor retainer, probably just a typo.
Hi Daniel, That's one good thing about kit instructions being posted online. There have been a few kits that I won't buy after reviewing the instructions.

It's about time. Time to see if this is something I want to tackle.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look too bad. Some glue other than water based for skinning the shuttle and the right color paint for the tank, and I should be good to go.

DeleteThat and maybe painting some parts before assembly. That would lead to some involved glue contact area masking.
I am sure it won't be any worse than masking the Asteroid Hunter for the plastic detail pieces that are glued to the card stock. That was a pain.
