This is the nose cone from the Skonk Wulf build. The Kevlar has been tied to the nose cone. The end of the cord is already frayed.
Rub some yellow or white glue at the area where you wish to cut the line. Spread the glue around so it covers 1/2" around the cut point. Let the glue dry.
TIP: Never use CA (Super Glue) on Kevlar or shroud lines. The glue runs up the line and makes it hard and brittle.
After the glue dries, cut the Kevlar line. I use wire cutters. Sometimes scissors or an X-Acto knife can make a rough cut. Wire cutters make a clean cut and the glued area won't fray!
What size of braided Kevlar do you use for LPR builds? I hope you are weathering the hurricane safely

ReplyDeleteOn LPR rockets I use 135 lb. Kevlar. The three strand #346 from thethreadexchange.com is the stiffer three strand style like in the Quest kits. The price is about .046 cents per foot. You have to buy it in spools to get this price.
I also use the 150 lb. braided from emmakites.com. This is much cheaper at .024 cents a foot and a softer cord.
Tonight we will get wind gusts up to 85 mph, most of the storm eye is in the Gulf of Mexico. We will still get a foot of rain and chance of tornadoes. Central Florida will lose power and there will be trees down and some car ports torn down.
