Saturday morning at NSL, Jim Flis announced the closing of Fliskits model rocket company. The closing will take place sometime between the middle of September to sometime in December. Now is the time to grab that Fliskit model you have been eyeballing.
EDIT: From TRF - BEC asked: Did he say why? Malbar70 response: I believe it is so he can spend more time with his family, mainly his grand kids. He also wants to focus on his career as an educator. Malbar70 added: As I understand, there may be some negotiations in the near future.
Hopefully some of Jim Flis’ creative designs will live on with another maker - I have 4-5 (have to look in the boxes of unbuilts for an exact number!) Fliskits waiting to start. Sad to think there won’t be any new designs coming from Mr. Flis in the future. I know you’ve done a fair number of Fliskit models on the blog already Chris but maybe one more as a send-off...like an ACME Spitfire or the USS Grissom...
Hi Openroad, Jim Flis (and associates at FlisKits) have done some great designs. I should pick up a few of the MicroMaxx Saturn Vs. The MMX Honest John is a favorite. The USS Grissom reminds me of the old Estes Trident.
Fliskits is the best source for Micro Max parts and kits. With his MMX parts you can scale down classic rockets. Such as a main tube BT5 Vega with BT 3 landing pod tubes. With his kits you can get down to BT2, with balsa nose cones and adapters. It would be a real loss for the downscale and MMX communities to loose Fliskits.
Oh man, another great rocket company that's going to be gone, so sad.
ReplyDeleteTerrible news! I have so many Flis rockets in my fleet. Best wishes to Jim and all at Fliskits, guess this can't have been an easy decision to make..

ReplyDeleteHi Scott,
DeleteI agree! Quest has very limited MMX parts. Semroc is starting to produce kits and carry some MMX parts.
