"Here it is: The (long awaited) Director's Cut of the Altaira Rocketry Soviet N1 Model Rocket launch in Guelph, Ontario, Canada under the Cambridge Rocket Club in high resolution. Enjoy!! Still photo from a Go Pro courtesy of Saverio Prato, RSO Cambridge Rocket Club."

A very well produced video. It looks like four of the six D12 engines ignited!
Kudos to Paul - I don't know if I'd tackle such an involved build.

  1. Hope he recovered it without damage. After putting in 130 man hours of work I'd be afraid of launching it, especially on a cluster. Aerostadt at TRF also did a build and launch. Parachute didn't open, major damage.

Also check out the top of the page for a Youtube video of a high power N-1 launch. Looks like a three stager. Laters.

  2. The fact that we do not see landing photos with parachutes leads me to believe that the vehicle did not survive the flight--just like the real 4 N-1s from the 1960s and 1970s. Oh well, at least they have 2 motors that they can use for other purposes.

  3. So, did he get mission points for flying like the real one did(n't)? :-)

Seriously, beautiful build but a heart-rending finish.
