TIP: Don't cut Kevlar lines with your Mom's best scissors. you could ruin them! Don't cut Kevlar with your X-Acto knife, it'll dull the blade!
TRIVIA: On an equal weight basis, Kevlar is five times stronger than steel!
TIP: Use Wire Cutters to cut Kevlar.
Second that! I find having a cheap pair of Harbor Freight or equivalent wire cutters that are soft enough to be easily resharpened or low cost enough to toss in recycling to be a good option.

ReplyDeleteI keep some Harbor Freight Tools in my garage, in case the neighbor asks to borrow. Like the $19 angle grinder that I use a couple times a year. Nobody but me gets to use my good tools, located in my basement shop. :-)

Delete'Aint that the truth! I learned years back - Never bring a new roll of masking tape to a big club launch!
On two different occasions I let someone borrow tape, but never get the roll back.
We wore out a few pairs of scissors by cutting Kevlar. They had a lifetime warranty, so we sent them to the manufacturer and got new ones in return. Then we got a call from the manufacturer asking what the heck we were doing! :-)

DeleteMy Dad was always sharpening his pocket knife. He'd wear one down to where it looked like a toothpick, then send it back to the Buck company for a free replacement. They included a letter saying: "We're glad you're getting such good use out of your knife!"
