The picture shows many scribbles from restarting the ink flow when outlining one model.
I ended up using only one Sharpie from the five pen package.
As before, many pencil marks were made around the tube at 15/16" from the top of the wrap, before using the Sharpie.
Notice the wrap of tape - That is protection against finger oils and dirt.
This picture was taken from the second build I did, before marking the upper band shown above.
Notice the wiggly line at the top of the corrugation. I went back with the ultra fine point pen to touch-up and straighten out the line.
Like before, use the Fine Point pen to widen the line, working a little into the interior of the black area.
Here's the mid section corrugations ready for the main black paint mask.

I wonder how paint pens would work for the black areas? The Testors black enamel.

DeleteI can't give an answer, I don't have any experience with the Testor paint pens. I looked it up online, they appear to have a "fine" point nib, but I doubt it is as narrow a line as the ultra fine point Sharpie pen. The small point of this Sharpie pen allows you to get into some pretty tight corners.
GSI Creos makes a series of paint markers in the "Gundam marker" series -- in this lineup are fine-tip pens designed for use in panel lines in (typically plastic) models. However I don't recall if they had black in this format -- most of these were various shades of greys and brown (black would look too stark of a contrast to look effective as panel line).
DeleteThanks Chris. I am trying to finish a Saturn V that I have been working on for at least a year now. I have a chisel tip Testors Gloss Black enamel paint marker. Was going to try and use it to fill in all the black areas. Will see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, Could the wraps be marked with the markers before they are adhered to the tubes? They'd be done on a flat surface that way. Just wondering out loud. Thank you for your build. Steve

DeleteYou might be able to do the marker outlines with the wraps flat. The markers could be okay, but any paint applied flat might crack off when the wrap is "flexed" when wrapped around the body tube.
