Estes Great Goblin, #9724 Build, Part 22, Masking Off The Body

A slit was cut in a plastic grocery bag.
This was slipped over the soon to be black fin.

A GOOD COMMENT TIP:
Cut masking bags without any printed areas or turn the bags inside out. That bag print ink can transfer to the paint you are masking off.

Masking tape is set over the Scotch Tape strips and onto the plastic bag.

Another plastic bag was cut and wrapped around the upper end of the body tube leaving only the one fin exposed.

Before spraying I lightly sanded the orange peel a bit. This is your last chance at a final sanding. Don't go too deep, just knock off the tops.

  1. When using grocery bags for masking, be sure the marketing ink is away from any paint that could possibly be less than 107% cured. It sucks to peel your masking off and have a nice, clean line, only to see a wrinkled "Kroger" in blue ink on the part you were trying to protect.

    1. Hi Anonymous,
Good point! That hasn't happened to me in quite a long time. I must be using a different print inked bags. I'll add that tip to future posts.
