Now This Is Clever . . .

Rich Holmes has made the full sized R13 Clarinet Rocket.
(The rocket is on the left, the real clarinet is on the right)
Cone stabilized with a LOT of time spent cutting Monokote trim.
I didn't understand the name R13 until Rich finally added: "Oh by the way, "Rxiiiab" = "R13 Ab". Now it can be told.
This is a very clever design, I'm looking forward to the launch reports!

"R13" is the model designation for a clarinet from Buffet, I think overwhelmingly the model most often used by professional clarinetists at least in the US and western Europe. There isn't really an A-flat version of the Buffet R13, but the Rxiiiab prototype rocket at a little more than half the size of the the R13 rocket was roughly the size of an A-flat clarinet. My clarinet (pictured) is an Evette, made by Buffet but I paid about 1% of what an R13 would have cost!
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool. I also saw someone post on the NAR (I believe) Facebook page, a Flying V guitar rocket that does not use any extra fins for stabilization. It will only use the V as stabilization fins. I am very interested in seeing that one launch.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteMetalhead1986, here's the build thread on the Flying V; launch video is toward the end: http://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?134436-Summer-Buildoff-Roc-n-Roll-Flying-V-guitar
Sweet, thanks Neil
