Enerjet by Aerotech, Arreauxbee-Hi, Part 17, Upper Body Silver Mask

On the left is the black marked Scotch tape right above the top of the runways.

Masking tape and paper followed, covering the areas that will be painted silver.

Here's the full mask on the upper tube after the orange was sprayed.

The tape was pulled.
The upper end, above the top of the runways, is sprayed silver. This required another pieced mask of the orange. It took a few pieces of tape to cover the square tops of the runways.

There is some paper towel in the top to keep paint out of the tube.

This shows a good, clean mask line of the orange and silver.

  1. Chris. You painted the orange before the silver, right?
I plan to paint mt Atlas Abe soon. I'll do the Atlas half stage on the bottom first. Paint it light grey, then the chrome upper Atlas part.

    1. Hi Bill,
I did paint the entire rocket white first. The orange followed, but the upcoming silver area was masked off. I didn't want to spray the silver over the orange base. The orange base would discolor the silver. The silver was sprayed over the white. So, I had to mask twice. Also, don't clear coat silver paint! You'll end up with a dull gray.

    2. What brand of silver do you use?

    3. Hi Bill,
I use Rusto 7715 Aluminum or 7715830 Bright Coat Aluminum. The 7715830 Bright Coat Aluminum has little larger metallic flakes, the 7715 Aluminum is a smoother look. I don't see much difference between a "silver" or "aluminum" paint. The only Rusto paints I use are their metallics. The other Rusto regular colors are problematic.
