The picture shows how rough the pylon support pieces are.
Set on a flat surface, one was die-cut a hair wider.
The wider piece was sanded down to the height of the shorter piece.
A dowel is glued to the back edge of the pylon.
Cut the dowel a little longer than the pylon.
Sand the dowel ends even with the pylon length.

It's probably worth noting that the Anniversary release featured 2 die-crushed sheets which were half the thickness of the original. You had to cut out each piece and glue it to its counterpart from the 2nd sheet. Then you could sand and clean them up.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
DeleteI wasn't aware of this - interesting. Maybe die cutting the thinner sheets made for cleaner cuts? The two thinner laminated pieces would probably be stronger.
I do remember noticing the two plywood sheets in the Anniversary issue of the kit -- which had me scratching my head, as I remember only one sheet in the original. Happened to have the remnants of the plywood sheet from the original release in my scraps box to confirm that I wasn't misremembering.
Deletehmm.. Google still won't let me reference my acct.... That was me on the first comment. I was never able to get the Anniversary wood set to un-warp satisfactorally, so I CADd it up and had a buddy laser-cut some fresh wood. Pics are on a few FB sites.
