Estes Space Twister #7258, Part 5, Tab Slot Fill & Contour Sanding

After gluing on the spin strips, it seems the tabs were shorter than the slots they fit in.
Also, the tabs weren't as tall as the slots. This will need some filling with balsa shims.
You could fill these open areas with CWF, but when the slots are this deep the fill could take three applications and sanding. The CWF does shrink in deep areas.

On the left - a wedge was glued on the short tab bringing it a bit higher than the top of the slot.

On the right - a balsa shim was glued and pushed into the open slots at the tops and bottoms of most all the fins.

Here's two views of the fins after sanding the wedges and shims to the surface of the fins.

The overhanging tip of the fins will need to be sanded down and rounded to match the curve of the body tube.

On the left - the overhang tab at the top won't allow the root edge to contact the body tube for gluing.

On the right - 220 grit sandpaper is wrapped and taped around the body tube. Sand using the fin position shown (the root edge parallel to the length of the body tube) to take down the tip.

Here's the overhang tip after sanding.

On the left - The leading edge tip from the outside.
On the right -  The root edge tip viewed from the inside. You can see the rounded inside curve.
