Launch! Orlando R.O.C.K., September 6, 2014

We've had rain over the past few days but the field wasn't soggy. Skies were overcast, it was hot and humid. The sun was covered by clouds for most of the day.
Not as many fliers today. The rain and heat might have hurt attendance.

I arrived a little after 9:00 a.m.
The CHEROKEE GOON was first up with a Quest B6-4.
It canted to the east and touched down just this side of the road.
Estimated altitude, 475 feet.

The new Odd'l Rocket's LITTLE GREEN MAN had a vertical  straight flight on an Estes C6-5.
Altitude would be an estimate at 750 feet.
The picture shows the soft landing with no damage.

Glenn Sunseri launched his new Estes Long Tom with a B6-0, B6-4 combination.
Staging took place at about 75 feet.
Glenn's first Long Tom went horizontal and landed hard in the trees.
Today was a textbook flight and recovery.

With the wind very calm, I felt comfortable using more C6-5 engines.

The Quest X-15 reached 600 feet with the C engine.
Perfectly straight with no roll.
It landed behind the flight line in the sticker bushes. No damage.

The Custom Rockets NOMAD "coned" some during boost.
The C6-5 maxed out around 500 feet, the Odd'l parachute brought it back nice and easy.

My two "T" engine flights:
The Odd'l "FLARE" had a fast boost with a A10-3t engine.
The A10 is almost too much and fast for this model. The A3-4t will be a recommended engine. Altitude? 450 feet.

The 13mm MINI BERTHA got some real height with for a 1/2A3-4t engine. I would guess 425 feet before ejecting the streamer. It drifted to the east and into the adjoining field.
Lonnie B. held the barbed wire open as I squeezed through the fence.

The Estes GUARDIAN (now being built on this blog)
had a first flight on an Estes B6-4 to 450 feet.
Arrow straight and full chute deploy.
This one could be a new, regular favorite.

Lonnie Buchanon arrived late but still managed to get in a few launches.

This was a finished Craig's List find, the FlisKits Rock Star.
While the mount is made for 24mm engines, Lonnie used an adapter for a perfect C6-3 flight.
On this size field it's a good match. Slow off the pad but a good altitude.

And finally -
My old FRANKEN GOBLIN using a Quest B6-4.
The picture shows a old Tiger Tail igniter.
The igniter worked fine, it did take me an extra moment to connect up with the dirty clips.
Estimated altitude would be pushing 400 feet.

Eight rockets launched in one day - quite a few for me!
