Something new -
Using a ultra fine point Sharpie, the border line was drawn using the slight recess ring molded into the nose cone.
The rest was filled in using a wide point Sharpie. This Sharpie fill will only work on a small area.
This isn't my best work. I would have preferred a mask and sharper line.
Scotch tape was rolled around the end. Enlarge the picture to see it.
The rest of the exposed area was masked off with masking tape and copy paper.
The right side picture shows a clean mask.
The nose cone tip really looks pretty decent.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Tamiya masking tape for curves? It's a flexible vinyl (I think) tape that can conform to surfaces like that. It's a bit tricky to use and I don't use it often but it can be useful.
Hi Neil,
DeleteI don't think the Tamiya tape would have worked on this nose cone tip. The curvature and angle are very sharp. I have used it in the past but didn't have an handy.
In the direct sunlight your can see some variance in the black density of the Sharpie ink.
I'm pretty sure I have done sharper curves than that with it. It is not easy but it is possible. But you got a pretty good result anyway.
DeleteMaybe you could try carefully brush painting over the Sharpie without going all the way to the mask edge to avoid slopping up the white.
