Get The Right Carpenter's Wood Filler

I finally ran out of my last tub of Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Filler.
You can still fin the older style filler at the Super WalMart stores.
Look for the orange lid!
There is a new formulation (CWF MAX) that is much grittier and harder to sand.

I've already marked the water to filler mix ratio on lid -
1 Part Water, 2 1/2 parts CWF.
This mix is a good starting point for a brushable balsa filler.

  1. Is the ratio by volume or weight? Thanks!

    1. Thanks! I did volume too, but weighed it, to make it more repeatable than teaspoons. 10g filler to 2.4g water is 2.5 to 1 in volume. I had horrible luck with CWF and abandoned it (too hard to sand, especially on tubes.)...until multiple posts from you convinced me to try and mix 2.5/1. Have done 3 fin sets and they are coming out nice! Thank you.

I have yet to try this ratio on tubes. FUBAR'd a tube set with to heavy a ratio of CWF...tried timbermate...that went MUCH better. I will now revert to the CWF ratio on tubes and try it. Again, thank you!
