Lawrence (doswonk on TRF) posted pictures of his Semroc Goblin he just received got from ERockets. To see the post - CLICK HERE
Hats off to Randy Boadway for bringing back Semroc kits!
But . . . in the picture on the right -
That's a Alpha style "K" nose cone, not the original BNC-55AO nose cone.
I'm not trying to nit-pick. Inventory and supplies do run out.
The original Goblin nose cone is longer and very distinctive.
Apparently the numbered kits shipped with a mix and match nose cone.
ReplyDeleteI have a quick question not related to any recent posts but here goes anyways...on your Dr Zooch Freedom 7 and Jupiter C models, when attaching the fins, you don't cut away some of the wrap to expose the body tube? U just make rrivet holes in the tube through the wrap?
ReplyDeleteHi Daniel,
DeleteI had to get out the two models and check for sure, it's been five years since those posts.
Both the Freedom 7 and Jupiter C models have card stock body wraps. The fins would be glued to the wrap and not directly to the body tube.
I didn't cut away the wrap, that would be hard to do accurately.
The glue rivet holes are an old idea. The holes go through the wrap and BT-50 body tube.
This is a compromise, stronger than just a surface glue mount and better than just gluing the root edge to a "skin" that might tear on a hard landing.
Thank you for your reply. The instructions suggest that some of the card stock wrap be cut away to expose the body tube underneath. Like you, I thought that would be hard to do neatly and accurately. Thanks again for your response. Your building skills are second to none, btw. You do immaculate work.
DeleteFunny part was I didn't even realize my kit's cone had the wrong contour until somebody pointed it out in the TRF thread! As I said there, the "55AO" contour was available in both balsa and blow-molded plastic. There is also a scaled-up BT-60 sized version (or was the '55 a scale-down?) that came on Der Red Max, the red-white-blue "Citation" Patriot (not the later scale model of the missile), the Mean Machine, and many other Estes rox. The contour of the nose cone does have an awfully big effect on the look of the whole model!
ReplyDeleteSome unfortunate mistakes were made when we kitted the Goblin - mistakes we intend to correct. If your Semroc Goblin arrived with the wrong nosecone, contact eRockets at 616-460-2678 or erockets@rocketmail.com with your order number and we will ship the proper BNC-55AO nosecone to you at no cost. Thank you for your patience and support as we strive to get the company up and running again. Check back often as we plan to release new kits soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Eric,
DeleteThanks for your response. I know mistakes can be made when bagging up kits. I've left out a centering ring or a launch lug before! I'll get an email and send out the replacement parts.
