This is a departure for Estes, a real competition style helicopter recovery model.
". . . challenge your building skills to get the "blades" just right for a maximum duration descent of 45-60 seconds in dead air. Powered by an A10-3T . . .
Geez, for $15 how could you *not* get one of those. I look forward to seeing the details of John Boren's blade mechanism. The man is a wizard with a CAD program and laser cutter.
ReplyDeleteThis will make a nice partner to my Cyclone. I do enjoy my rockets that don't require wadding or chute packing.
Wow - and all I wanted was the new color scheme Flip Flyer available separate from the launch set. Putting this one on my future buy list for sure...
ReplyDeleteA mini-A HD kit for the masses..looking forward to launching one.
ReplyDeleteUgh, airfoil sanding, someday I will learn how to to that competently, or not.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think airfoiling the rotors is as critical as the blade angle - the construction jigs will probably get the angle right to cause the rocket to helicopter down without an airfoil shape on the blades. Now if you want to do competitions and need some duration then I imagine you’ll have to airfoil the blades.
