John Boren (Estes Designer) posted this on the NAR Facebook page. Is this a tease for a new Pershing 1A?
Mr. Boren has posted on the forums before saying that the Maxi-Brute Pershing probably won't come back into production. Apparently too much nose weight was needed for the larger, heavier engines required.
Wouldn't it be neat if Boren made a BT-60 OR BT-70 Pershing? Around 16" long, maybe?
ReplyDeleteIt seems that a Pershing model of any size is going to need a lot of nose weight relative to the model, unless non-scale enlarged fins are added. I don't know Estes' criteria for determining what is acceptable for a salable model.
ReplyDeleteBut that image sure is suggestive. :)
Re-reading a few of John Boren's posts leads me to think that whichever mold exists for a Pershing nose cone will determine the size of any new model. Evidently building new molds and producing the nose cones is the limiting factors for developing a given model. Hopefully we see some kind of Pershing midel produced in the future - it's a neat design!
ReplyDeleteJust to let you guys know, Boyce Aerospace recently came out with a BT-80 based Pershing 1A. With the closure of TLP, that seems to be the only available Pershing in kit form. Hopefully Estes will also come out with one. Laters.
ReplyDeleteWhat if J.B.'s cookin' up a Pershing to go with the new 23" Honest John? That'd put the Pershing at around 30". BT-70 would work for the girthier Pershing (actual dia. of 40"), standing next to HoJo's BT-60 (actual dia. of 30".) I bet he does it! I bet he does it!
ReplyDeleteBoren's not just modeling, he's changing lives!
