BMS/Alway Saturn V Build, Part 16, Escape Motor and Tower

The escape motor dowel was longer than the 1 1/2" needed. The tip was shaped to a cone and then cut to length.

TIP: Why not cut the dowel to the 1 1/2" length first? Leave it long and you can have a few tries at getting the top cone taper correct.

The internal tower supports should be sanded clean and filled before gluing together.

The outside edges are rounded.

The two pieces are slid together.
Fillets were added with a toothpick.

This interior support makes a very strong and easy to assemble tower assembly.

I had already filled and painted the Command Module.
The tower support assembly was set on the C.M. and the four bottom edge locations marked with pencil. The paint was carefully scraped off and the tower support glued in place.

The escape motor was sealed, sanded and glued in place.
The escape motor shroud cone will be covered in the next step.
