Estes Shipping Container

Some might find this interesting -

In that box are three finished Black Brant XXII models. This is how built models are now sent back to Estes.
There is a LOT of bubble wrap surrounding the finished models.

Previously I sent the models back to Penrose in cardboard boxes. It made no difference how much padding was set around the builds, some models were broken up in transit.
This container should stand up to some rough handling.

  1. I'm glad you don't have to pay for that shipping!

    1. Hi Anonymous,
You and me both! I asked and it was around $175.00 from Florida to Penrose.

  2. For some strange reason, I am reminded of those commercials for American Tourister from the 1970s.

    1. Hi Naoto -
The American Tourister luggage faired much better than some of my reinforced cardboard boxes. Mail and parcel services are very hard on finished models.

    2. I'd seen a PC get damaged in shipping before -- even though the package was labelled as "fragile" on all sides.
      * The corners and edges of the shipping box were partially collapsed (as if the box had tumbled around).
      * one side of the shipping box had a hole in it as if someone kicked or punched it.
      * side panel of the PC had a dent in it (corresponding to the side where the shipping box had a hole).
      * A couple of the I/O cards inside the PC were knocked loose from impact.

    3. Naoto,
I was told by Bill Stine not to put "Fragile" stickers on the finished model boxes. He thought that made it more tempting for the workers to toss around the boxes.

  3. I remember those too...the gorillas slamming suitcases around...

    1. Hi Ed,
I thought those Gorilla ads were funny until you have a guitar and banjo broken up by human baggage carriers.
