Here's a simple way to "finish" a launch lug without painting it.

Cut some 20 lb. paper a little longer than your launch lug.
To check the wrap width, roll the paper you just cut around the lug and cut the width 1/32" short.
You don't want the ends to match when wrapped around the lug. This will give you a better, stronger gluing area.

I've already pre-rolled the paper in the palm of my hand by rolling a 1/8" dowel over it.
I'm using a simple glue stick to adhere it around the launch lug.

This is what you are looking for, when wrapped and glued around the lug.
I didn't get a perfect matched gap, it won't matter much. This gap area will glue to the body tube.
