Quest AS-1 Escort Build, Part 5, Tube Angle Cutting

There are three different diameter tubes and three miter cut guide wraps.

(I had to take two pictures and combine them to the show hand position.)
TIP: You'll get a cleaner cut if you keep the knife still and turn the tube under the blade.

After a few passes with the knife here's the 45 degree angle cut. It's still a bit rough.

The only way to get a clean flat edge is to use a sanding block.

The outer mylar layer "skin" will roll back.
Push it to the center and hit it with the block again to remove it.

The inset picture shows the final smoothed cut.

  2. Nice work, Chris! You just reminded me how much fun I had tube-cutting for Flis's Acme Spitfire. So much fun to do the precision cutting and fitment where required! (Oooh, and the_sanding_to get 'em perfect! Aaaaaaah.) KUTGW!
