This was different!
It isn't hard to assemble but the painting took some planning. The instructions suggest black for the low tapered ring above the gold nozzle, but I left it white.
I'm not expecting big altitude, just a fun Micro Maxx flight.
It has already had a first, successful launch.
Next up - The Estes Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper
Looks GREAT as usual Chris!

Thanks J.W.!
DeleteI decided to assemble mine first , then brush Paint the colors. Let's just say it's been on the table for two months waiting for me to make it look mediocre. Yours looks great Chris.
ReplyDeleteHi Metal,
DeleteOn a model this small, I'm always tempted to assemble then paint. But on this one I could see problems brushing tight color separation lines where the legs were glued into the housings. It ended up being more work than I would have liked.
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I don’t fly MicroMaxx, and wonder if you think it could be converted to 13mm motors?
Hi Lee,
DeleteIt might be possible, but you would lose the nozzle detail pieces, no room at all for a streamer - this Mars Lander is very small. I have an Estes Mini Mars Lander, the one you had to construct, not the later all plastic version. It's twice as big and designed for 13mm engines.
Great build! If seen at a distance it could be easily mistaken for the regular-sized Mars Lander.
ReplyDeleteIf you happen to have the full size and the mini version, perhaps a "family picture" (and perhaps add into the shot the engines used in each one) would be in order.
.. and I suppose if you happen to have an Outlander maybe that could be in the shot too.
