This is the best placement I could find for the fin stickers.
The picture shows how the right side goes into the root, the narrower left side is just inside the outside edge. The sticker print wasn't as wide as the leading edge.
At the top end -
There was a raised black paint ridge that could show under the upper wrap sticker.
I wrapped some old 400 grit around a Q-tip and carefully sanded the raised paint edge. I only wanted to knock down the edge. Be careful not to go wide or too deep. The upper sticker should cover the narrow sanded band.
To be sure the wrap around meets up, wrap a masking tape guide line around the tube before using the sticker.
Remove the sticker from the backing using a clean hobby knife blade. Don't touch the sticky side with your fingers, you might see a fingerprint after the sticker is on the model.
Dip the sticker in water to allow repositioning. Chances are you will want to set it down a second or third time. You can re-wet the sticker if needed between placements.
Note in the picture how the the black in the sticker slightly overlaps the edge of the black paint line.
That green paint looks fantastic.

Agreed! That that green looks great! And how was it to work with the Tamiya? Any issues with paint blobs so often groused about on the Rusto 2x or other nits?

DeleteNo issues with this one use. I can't speak for all the other available colors tho -
It sprayed easily, but with metallics you've got to use a few light coats.
I have used the Tamiya flat Olive Drab on an upcoming blog build. Results were good, but you pay extra for it.
Love the lime green color. I have a can of that but have not used it yet.
ReplyDeleteI have become a huge Tamiya spray paint fan. They are acrylic lacquers and dry quickly. I have never had issues with running, blotching — they just work. They also mask very well. I became a fan after a recommendation to use their black, white, and silver on Saturns. They have a LOT of whites and silvers! My favorite silver is their TS-17 Gloss Aluminum.
Finally, their Fluorescent Red and Orange are great colors. Very glossy — no flat, textured look to their finish, like most fluorescents.

DeleteI'm too cheap to pay for premium paints, but sometimes I have to go for the good stuff.
Thanks for the tip on the Tamiya fluorescents. I'll keep them in mind if a model calls for it.
