Semroc Shroud Line Instructions

The instructions included with the Semroc parachutes have you lace the shroud line through the sticky disk tie it while off the parachute.
After the line is tied on, then it is stuck to the parachute.

I can't do it this way. By the time I've tied the line on, the disk has lost much of it's tackiness and hold on the parachute.

To make this a bit easier, stick the disk on your (clean) knife blade. This keeps the handling to a minimum and finger oils off the disk.

Lace the shroud line through the holes off the parachute. The short end of the line should be about 3/4".
After it is laced through, transfer the disk on the parachute while still on the knife blade. Press the disk onto the printed circle of the parachute while pulling the blade out from underneath it. The picture shows the transfer after the line was laced through.

Now tie the square knot with the disk on the parachute.
Use long tweezers to make it even easier.

I don't have the patience to tie the line on the disk then stick both down on the parachute. By the time the knot tied the sticky side of the disk was dirty. Using the knife lets you position the disk exactly where you want it.

  1. I use a variation on the Estes method: I stick the disk to the parachute first, punch the two holes through the plastic then feed the string through and tie it.
