Estes Blackhawk #2053 Build, Part 1, Parts

The kit came in a big bag because of the larger die-cut cardstock sheets.
At one time, the back of the bags were printed and you couldn't see the kit parts. This may have been done to stop the temptation to squeeze and crimp the tubes.

All the parts:
Notice the all white decal sheet.

Missing from the bag was a Mylar engine hook retaining ring and a 1/12" diameter dowel.
The parachute shroud line retention disks aren't sticky anymore.

Parts of interest:
Two white plastic nose cones. The shoulder base reminds me of the Starlight, now Apogee plastic nose cones.
A black parachute to match the overall black of the model.
The thinner third die-cut cardstock sheet. The canopy is on this sheet. The die-cuts were very clean with very little raised burrs on the edges.

  1. Speaking of working around licening, a number of years back the company Glencoe worked around the licensing when they reissued the old Strombecker kit of the Disney Moonliner. As released by Glencoe the model had been renamed "Mars Liner" and the decals were modified to depict fictitious airline "FASTWAYS" and decal with script lettering for the naming the ship "Marsliner Moonbeam." If you're observant you may notice an opportunity to "edit" the supplied markings.
A similar sort of workaround might've been used with the Estes Mini Honest John with its "U.S. MILITARY" marking.
