Here's one of the more demanding parts of the build, cutting out the vacuform body wraps.
The older Centuri kit used these same vacuform wraps except theirs were die cut to shape. From reading the forums, it seems these cuts weren't very accurate.
The body wraps didn't meet when wrapped around the tube. There were 1/16" gaps where the ends should have butted up against each other.
With this kit you can plan ahead and cut things a little wide, then trim and sand to a closer fit.
TIP: Work on the simplest rectangular wraps first to get a feel for how the thin plastic sheets will cut. I would suggest the upper 2nd stage wrapper or the upper and lower 3rd stage wrappers.
First remove the outside vertical frame edge from the sheets. This raised lip helps give the sheet some rigidity and protect it during shipping.
Cut far enough away from the body wrap as you can.
TIP: Roll some tape loops with the adhesive to the outside and stick three or four to the back of a wrap. This keeps the vacuform plastic in one place under the pressure of the cuts.
Your straightedge will be covering up most of the wrap while you are cutting.
I drew a pencil line for a reference when cutting. If the wrap were to shift, I can see the pencil line move easier than just the white plastic under the knife.
Time spent on build: 1:00 cutting the wraps
Total time on build so far: 13:00
