Rob Caswell's Der V 1/2

"The second build is my recreation of what was originally intended as one of the mid-seventies Goonies, but was reworked into The Missile Toe for release.

All the original Goony concepts were all wacky WW2 fliers, ala the Red Max, (see top picture - Estes original designer drawing) but apparently management decided that theme wouldn’t fly. Literally.

So this build attempts to create the rocket as originally conceived (see original Estes concept drawing in the gallery) – a sort of V1ish homage. As far as I know it didn’t have a name at this early stage, so I decided to dub it “Der V ½” and try to tweak it a bit more (black nose) to evoke a Red Max family resemblance. The model was built using a Mini Fat Boy."

Frank Burke wasted no time making an R/C Boost Glider based on Rob's work:

Rob's response: "WILD, Frank! She's a pretty nice glider! Came in real smooth on landing, too. Impressive! I'm still blown away that you had it built and flying in under 24 hours!"
