Launch! Orlando R.O.C.K., May 5, 2018

With a good chance of rain in the forecast, we didn't know if the monthly launch would be cancelled. Skies were clear driving to the launch site. Upon arrival the clouds moved in. I grabbed my rockets and an umbrella.
There were a few short cloud bursts, winds were between 5 and 10 mph.

I started the day with the Estes QUINSTAR and a C6-3. Spins up,  spins down with altitude around 125'.

The second 1/100th scale Estes LITTLE JOE II had a fast boost with an A10-3t to around 300'. Very stable and no damage to the tower when picked up.

BT-60 models with B6-4 engines are great demonstration models.
Slower launch and manageable recovery on small fields.

The Estes SUPER ALPHA was third to fly with an Estes B6-4. Altitude was probably 300'. A 18" chute with a spill hole brought it right back to the rack.

The Estes CURVILINEAR is a stout, strong rocket. Today's A8-3 peaked out at 175'. No damage when picked up.

Gary Dahlke is known for his staged composite launches at N.E.F.A.R. He had asked about Micro Maxx rockets. To get him started, I gave Gary a Applewhite Bic Pen rocket and a half dozen engines. Today was his first MMX launch. I think he was impressed by the little powerhouses.

Manuel Mejia launched his Goony Saturn 1B twice with C11-3 engines. This is his Pringles can rocket with a card stock formed Mercury capsule. Manuel says these large models cost less than $2.00 to make!

My Goony X-15 flew with an older Quest German B6-4. Estimated altitude was 325'. Textbook flight and recovery.

I usually launch five models at a club meet, today my sixth flight was the Quest VIPER with an A8-3. I would guess the altitude to be 175'.

Six up, six recovered with only a few balsa dents.

After breaking down the equipment the group would normally meet for a late lunch at Del Taco. Today a Cinco De Mayo buffet was hosted at JonRocket.com headquarters. Thanks to Bracha and Roger Smith for their hospitality.
