OOP Semroc Kit Instructions List

On the Rocketry Forum,
Tigerhawk posted a list of Model Rocketry part vendors.

I knew most of them, but one did catch my eye.
The old Semroc website no longer exists, but a link to OOP Semroc kit instructions is still available.

It's a great source for those wanting to build a few  classics.

Estes Nova Scout Ship Build #1392, Background

For a client I put together the new, reissued Estes Starship Nova. He also asked about a build of the "sister" ship, the Nova Scout Ship. Both models used the drop down nose cone.

I found the Nova Scout Ship instructions at oldrocketsplans.com
http://www.oldrocketplans.com/estes/est1392/1392_Scout_Ship_Nova.pdf

To find the body tube sizes for this model and all the rest -

Here's the body tube sizes I'll need -

Fantastic Plastic

In a recent email, Humanoido sent a link to:
http://fantastic-plastic.com/index.html

"Fantastic Plastic" is a scale modeling site that celebrates the weird, the wonderful, the odd, the radical, the exotic and the just plain cool aircraft and spacecraft model kits produced in styrene (and resin) over the last 70-plus years. From bizarre World War II-era "Luft '46" project planes to the latest science fiction concepts, here is a chronicle of Man's highest aspirations as expressed through his flying machines, both real and imagined.

Before I found Model Rocketry, I assembled many plastic models. This website shows the ones I never got around to buy and build.
Check out the "Spacecraft and Missiles" and "Science Fiction" for some build inspiration.

Here's a few I remember putting together way back . . .

Some Vashon Videos and Links

While doing some searches for Vashon Cold Propellant (Freon) Rockets I came across this website:

http://www.videorocketry.com/Vashon/vashon.html

It looks like it is linked to the Clay Brothers Video Rocketry site.
Lots of great information, Vashon videos and links.

Patreon?

I spend a lot of time building rockets and preparing the blog posts, answering emails,
drawing up PDFs, sending out decals and Saturn V blog books.
If the blog is to continue, I'm asking for donor support.

To become a support donor it's just $1.00 per month.
If you are not able to donate, I understand. There are other ways to help out.
Buy an Odd'l Rocket kit, bid on an Ebay rocket or simply click on the ads.
If I reach my patron goals the blog ads will disappear!
If you use PayPal, donations are handled automatically.
A BIG THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

The Model Rocket Building Blog was started in 2010 with an average of 650 posts per year! Post content includes step by step model rocket construction whether from a kit, classic or custom design. Model rocket trivia, tips and history of the hobby are also featured.

JimZ's Is Back!

JimZ is Back!
If you don't know this website, it holds many old rocket kit instructions and publications.
Here's the address:
http://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/index.htm

I understand the address has been changed slightly, so copy the new address shown above for future reference.

For anybody looking to clone a model it is a valuable resource.
Over the past few years some Centuri instructions wouldn't come up. Most recently the website was gone while the DARS section found a new server.

Thanks to Tony Reynolds for taking the time to bring everything back
and to the NAR DARS Section for hosting the website!

Rocketry Show Interview with John Boren

The Rocketry Show interviews John Boren of Estes Industries.
One hour of great information on rocket design and kits!

CLICK HERE to hear the interview.

Pretty interesting to hear how some kits are designed to clear out overstocked nose cones.
No future Pro Series II models on the horizon. The newer "web only" Pro Series kits are to clear out existing parts.
Mr. Boren hints at a Sci-Fi bring back using a nose cone "You can't turn on a lathe." The model has an "Absence of color", meaning it is black.
Could it be one of these? CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
I would doubt Estes would bring back the SR-71 Blackbird. That kit is a very difficult build.

New Quest Website Open

The Quest website is open today - October 5, 2016. CLICK HERE

Kits, parts, launchers and controllers are there.
Engines and igniters - not yet. Some starter sets are listed with engines.
There seems to be a LOT of "Special Offers". Looks like the Shrox Aerospace One kits are gone, the MLAS is still available at $20.00.
Water Rockets seem to have a big presence.
Parts are listed but pictures aren't posted yet. "Placeholder" pages are ready for more listings and pictures.

Somebody help me here - What's a PFU?

This new website is a great step in the right direction.
Let's hope engines and igniters aren't far off!

New Quest Website Opens on October 5

Quest Aerospace has been down for the past few days.
Today (October 4) there is a teaser home page with the message:

"Hi! Thanks for checking out the new Quest Aerospace website. We are currently stocking the website with hundreds of items and will be open for business on October 5, 2016."

To visit the Quest Website, CLICK HERE

Here's an illustration I can't easily read, the screen goes dark a second after the website is opened.

Along with the Quest Metric tube sizes - 20, 35 & 50mm, it also lists BT-20, BT-30, BT-40. BT-50 and BT-80.
Whaaaaat?

How Many R/C Rocket Gliders Can You Make From One Kit?

All these R/C Rocket Gliders were made using the large nose cone and 2" body tube from the discontinued Estes Cosmic Interceptor kit.

Frank produces the R/C Rocket Glider kits from Dynasoar Rocketry.
To see the entire product line, CLICK HERE
There are even more models than what is shown here.
While you are on the website, check out the videos - very impressive!

Note: The Trident styled model in the lower right isn't a rocket glider.

Suggested On Facebook

Finally, a "Suggested Post" on Facebook I can relate to!
I've bought lots of bulk Kevlar from the Thread Exchange in the past. Usually #135 lb. or 346 gauge.
That seems to be a good gauge for most model rocket building. CLICK HERE
I always think it's interesting to see pictures of the actual facility.
