Saturn 1B Fairring Shroud

On TRF, Marwady is doing a great, clean build of Semroc's 1/70 scale Saturn 1B HERE

Gary at VCP is making a 3D printed fairing shroud: HERE
The picture at the left shows how the fairing looks when you receive it.
The shroud is selling for only $7.50!

Here's Marwady's 1B fairing after smoothing and maybe a little filling.
Beautiful work and a BIG improvement over card stock!

If you've ever gone through the frustration of fitting the card stock fairing on the old Estes Saturn 1B, this is well worth the price.

  1. How come there is a step in the ellipse ?

  2. I think that is one layer of plastic "stepped" when it hit the curve of the fairing.
For now, all the 3D made parts have ridges. If you take the time to file and sand them down the pieces are smooth like in the bottom picture.
It is hard plastic and does take time.

    1. That step was an artifact of the slicer software. It doesn't appear on fairings I did later.

    2. Are those fairings still available?

    3. Hi Nettle,
I don't know if they are available. You would have to contact the person who makes them.
