Stronger Screw Eye Attachments - TIP

The thread on this screw eye didn't look like they would hold very well.
Taking a tip from the nose cones supplied through BMS, I wanted more for the screw eye to grab on to.
Some BMS nose cones include a "dowel" that glues into a hole in the nose cone shoulder.
After screwing in the screw eye, it was removed.
The hole was enlarged slightly with an awl. This is to prevent the nose cone from splitting when three toothpicks are pushed into the hole.

Again, don't force the three toothpicks in! Too much pressure and you could split the balsa.

Remove the toothpicks, squirt in glue and push the toothpicks back in.

After the glue has dried, cut off the toothpicks flush with the base of the nose cone shoulder. Sand the ends smooth.

If there is no hole showing, open up a small hole with a needle nose file.

Screw the screw eye back in, centered between the three toothpicks.
Remove the eye, squirt in glue and screw it back in again.

This screw eye won't be pulled loose at ejection!
