Prepping the Semroc Point!

Build it, Watch it fly - and Wonder Why! (Probably the corniest copy in the Centuri catalog.)

My first Centuri Point stayed on the launcher for the whole B6-2 flight, a victim of the Krushnik Effect.
The conical round base of the Point was almost a perfect fit over the round Estes blast deflector. I didn't know you should raise the model a few inches above the deflector.

All odd-ball models take a little extra time to flight prep, this Semroc Point is no exception.

There is a short elastic shock cord tether attached to the rear ring of the Point. This is tied to a a short length of ST-7 tube and taped to the rear of the engine.

Before installing the igniter, wrap some masking tape around the engine to get a light friction fit in the forward engine mount. You want enough tape so the engine won't fall out and still allow for an easy ejection.

Go ahead and install the igniter now, it's hard to reach inside the point once the engine is installed.
I use the standard Quest Q2G2 igniters on this one. The leads are long enough I can easily reach and connect up the micro clips.

Look close and you can see a piece of masking tape on the shock cord. It's taped to the inside body wall to keep the elastic out of the engine flame.

You don't want the tape stuck too hard to the side wall, just enough to keep the elastic held back. It could tear the card stock at ejection.

The picture at the right shows the Point ready for the launcher.
Just be sure to set it a few inches above the blast deflector!
