Quest AS-1 Escort Build, Part 1, Parts

I've built this one before on the blog, back in 2010.
This model has proved to be a favorite. My first build has 20 flights, mainly schoolyard launches using Quest A6-4 engines. It's showing lots of flight wear, time to build a new one.
Many of the points in this new build show similar mistakes in parts, instructions and decals.
Keep an eye out for the many GOTCHAS in upcoming posts.

It's a sharp Shrox design from the Quest 2010 catalog.
The AS-1 Escort model was the "Official Space Escorts for Aerospace One". The large Quest Aerospace One kit came out in the same catalog.

It's a great design, sort of a downscale of the Apogee Firefox SHX.
GOTCHA: The face card says it is 17.3" long, the finished model is actually 13 7/8" tall.
There are many mistakes in the instructions, that could be part of the reason the kit was discontinued. An inexperienced builder would have too many problems with assembly. The Skill Level is "2". With all the angled tube cutting and alignment issues, it should be a 3 1/2.

Most parts are good.
The tubes are thick with very little seams.
There are water slide decals.
Parts of interest: Four GOTCHAS:
The engine hook will be replaced. It bends easily and doesn't spring back.
The crescent shaped "gap pieces" are printed on a thin 110 lb. cardstock. These work like a centering ring and should be thicker.
The yellow engine tube is also thin and the exposed back end might have to be laminated with another layer of paper.
The plastic nose cone shoulder fit is loose in the main body tube.
