Orlando R.O.C.K. Launch, November 7, 2015

Everything was set up and the first rack loaded when I arrived after 10:00 a.m.
It was hot and humid, felt like an August launch day. I can't complain too much, there was no wind to speak of.

The Estes WIZARD was my first up using a 1/2A6-2 engine from Lonnie B. According to the Estes app on my phone it got to 212', looked about right to me. Streamer deploy and no damage.

Alex Irizarry joined us with some of his large carded models, a Little Joe II, Saturn V and Soyuz. His best flight was the Soyuz getting a good round of applause when it touched down.

Another test flight of the Odd'l Rockets SPOOL.
A C6-3 gave a labored boost. At ejection a tight, fast spin brought it back in. Estimated altitude was probably 250'.

Gary Dalhke joined us with some vintage LPR rockets, one being an MPC Lunar Patrol.
Here he preps a LOC IV with a G64. Loud and just high enough for the small field.

Manuel Mejia always brings some true scratch builds.
This was a two engine cluster.
The bottom end is a Pringles can from Japan, the nose cone is a cork.

My HONEST GOON hadn't flown for a while. It's heavy with the BT-70 nose section. A B6-4 almost isn't enough. Today it was launched with a C6-5 to about 425'. Full parachute and no damage on the mowed field.

Club president Brian Coyle is usually too busy with RSO duties to fly many rockets. Here is his Fliskit Deuces Wild launched with two C6-5 engines. For me it was one of the best flights of the day!

My Custom Rockets SOLAR EXPLORER got a better altitude than I was expecting with the Quest B6-4. Estimated altitude was near 425'. I had cut a big hole in the chute, it was almost a streamer but brought it in close.

Finishing out my day was the Odd'l Rockets LITTLE GREEN MAN with another Quest B6-4. The Quest B6-4 engines usually get a little more altitude than the Estes B6. The ejection charges aren't very strong though. This one popped loud and easily ejected the chute. No damage at recovery.

Five up, five down without any repairs. Too hot for November, after a followup lunch at Del Taco everyone was due for a nap.
All my launches today were Estes Starters with a QuickBurst dipped tip.

  1. Sorry we missed the launch Chris. Looked like some great rockets there this month. After Scouting for Food bag drop off, more of the uncharacteristic November heat and humidity was going to be too much. We did get Del Taco on Sunday, though. :-)
