CHEAP! 50mm Nose Cones On Sale NOW!

I was at the Dollar Tree store today and they are selling the plastic champagne flutes again! Two for $1.00.
These are the same nose cones I'm using on the Scavenger build.
You do have to break off the plastic heart, cut off the base and form the tip.
Flip it over, make a coupler/shoulder and it's almost a perfect fit on the Quest 50mm body tubes!
These are the same nose cones I'm using on the current Scavenger build.

Pic 1 shows the packaging to look for at the Dollar Tree store.

Pic 2 has the coupler installed, made from a segment of the Quest 50mm tube.

Pic 3 shows the fit in the 50mm tube. It does take a few wraps of masking tape, but for a 50 cent nose cone it's okay by me!

Pic 4 shows a close up of the nose tip going into the stem of the glass. You can see the air bubble near the plastic heart.
Be sure any air bubble is far down,
away from where the tip end will be after shaping. I had to look through a few packages to find these two useable glasses in the same bag.

  1. Hey Chris. I picked up about 5 of these the other day and was going to try my hand at this. Couple questions:
    1. Do you have a source other than Quest to get the 50mm tubes? They want a minimum order of 5 tubes which ends up being nearly $35 shipped!!

    2. Did you do any special prep to the flutes prior to paint? (worried about the paint adhering)

    3. What technique did you use to get such a nice point on them?

    thanks!

  2. Hi Vigilante
1.Quest is the only source for the 50mm tubes!
The champagne flutes are the closest fit to the Quest tubes.
Email me at oddlrockets@bellsouth.net for help on the price.
2.A light final sanding of the nose cones should give you something for the paint to grab onto. My paint has not come off any nose cones made from the champagne flute nose cones.
    3. The blog entries should explain it all. Just follow the contour of the the nose cone side taper to the top center point. A sanding block with 220 grit sandpaper should be about right.
