Mercury and Apollo Capsules and Towers from Estes

From YORF, Rich Holmes found this on the Estes website:

Mercury Capsule Parts - CLICK HERE
Little Joe II Capsules - CLICK HERE

Looks like we can all build the Mercury Little Joe II from the old Enerjet News!
Last year I bought some golf tees to use as recruit motors!

I wouldn't be surprised if Estes doesn't come out with a MR Little Joe in the next year.

  1. Cut and paste error on those URLS. Should be:
    Mercury
    Little Joe II
(you need to "copy link address", not "copy" or ctrl-c.)

    1. ... and I got those backwards. Links work but "Mercury" takes you to Little Joe II and vice versa. Sigh.

    2. Hi Rich,
I don't know what happened. I checked the links last night and they were fine, today they didn't work. They should be fixed now.

  2. Yup, when I clicked on those links I got a "Page not found" error on the Estes website. But if you use the searchbox in the upper right it takes you to the correct page. Glad you posted this Chris, cuz I was just about to order the Dr Zooch kit. Instead I'll scratch build one from the Enerjet plans.BTW erockets has series 20 tubes, couplers, and #9 to #20 centering rings.

    1. Hi Anonymous,
      The links were fixed, thanks!
The Enerjet News Mercury Little Joe isn't true scale, the body is a little longer. The Dr. Zooch Mercury Little Joe is a good kit but you have to make the tower from dowels. If you use the #9 tube, I assume you want to use 24mm engines? That design was made for 18mm engines. Double check your stability before flying.

    2. Right, the Enerjet instructions say to add 2 oz. of nose weight when flying an E engine. I intend to install the 24mm mount and fly with both 24 mm engines and 18 mm engines, with the plastic adapter from Estes.

  3. Hurray! Now I can fix my broken tower!

  4. What size tube does the Little Joe II fit?

    1. I believe it's a specialty tube, 3.42" in diameter. Impossible to find, since I was looking for that same size tube to scratch build a Mercury Atlas from an old Estes kit plan. Wound up buying some 3.5" tubes from the Paper Tube Co.

    2. Hi Mike,
I can't find the 3.42" diameter tube size designation, even on the old Semroc or BMS websites. Like Anonymous wrote above, it was a specialty tube, not used in any other Centuri kit that I can find.

    3. Thanks for the answers.
I was hoping to make a scratch build.
