    1. Hi
      Anonymous,
I agree - fifty dollars is a lot! When I started in rocketry a model like this would have been $10 - tops!
I'll wait until I find it cheaper from an online dealer (or wait two years until it goes on clearance!)

  3. Okay, it's an apples to oranges sort of comparison here, but here goes:
Looking over prices of 1975 catalog (just picked a year at random), I see the Mars Lander listed at $9.95. Using the CPI inflation calculator ( http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl ) and pop in the values, I see that it's the equivalent of $44.25 in 2016. Working backwards, $50 today would've been around $11.25 back in 1975.

    1. Hi Naoto,
So I wasn't off by much! I started in 1969 which would have brought your $11.25 (1975 est. price) down a bit lower, maybe down to $10.00. In 1969 the big Estes Saturn V was just $9.95!

  4. Main point I'm trying to get across is most of the times where I looked at the price of a model kit and thought the price seemed a bit high, I did similar check and discovered that if I took inflation into account, the price didn't seem unreasonable.
