Semroc Saturn 1B, Build, OOP #KS-1, Part 12, Nozzles & Capsule Shroud

The wide end of the nozzles got a wipe of medium CA glue. The tapered dowel was quickly set in the nozzle and twisted to it wouldn't be glued in place. This helped "lock" the nozzle in a round shape. It also stiffens up the ends for flat sanding.

Here is all four nozzles.
They are all the same size and diameter. The angle of the shot makes the nozzle on the lower left look smaller.

The capsule shroud is cut out with scissors.

Run your index finger over the curved edge and you'll feel some bumps in the scissor cut curve. Wrap some 400 grit sandpaper around your finger and sand the curve smooth.

TIP: Again, use very little glue to close a shroud.
Here I'm using two clean dowels to burnish the glue tab. Don't roll  over the width of the glue tab, concentrate on just the outside edge of the overlap.

TIP: The inside glue tab raises the edge above the balsa nose cone shoulder. I wrapped some 220 grit around an engine casing and took the double edge down.

Build time this post: 25 minutes
Total build time so far: 12 hours, 55 minutes
