New Estes 2019 Catalog

Here's a couple screen grabs from a short Estes 2019 Catalog promo video. It will be available in March. I like how the catalog is set up. To see the video, CLICK HERE
"Here's some of the past, present and maybe future kits."
On the NARAM Estes tour I did ask about the 1/100 Saturn 1B. Ellis Langford said it will be a kit but didn't give a production date.

The 1/200 Scale Saturn V is shown. It's hard to read the price but it looks like $69.99.
I'm not saying that's the price, that's what I see -
There are clear plastic fins that are held in place by the screw on engine retainer.

  1. I’m a little surprised the price appears to be $69.99 - that seems a little high for the impulse buy because it’s the anniversary buyer market. Hopefully, if it is priced as it appears in the video clip, the usual discount sources will carry it - $40-50 is a bit more palatable. And I’m wondering about the performance specs - 1300 ft on a C motor from a 2 in diameter 5 oz fairly draggy model doesn’t seem right...

    1. Hi Openroad,
      I didn't see that! A 5 oz. plastic model getting 1,300 feet on a C6-3? We'll see!
I just noticed the small horizontal stand holding the Bullpup on the Scale page.

    2. That stand looks nifty! I like it better than the tailstander style ones.

The more I look at the vidcap of the catalog page the more I think it’s a mock-up and not a picture of the actual catalog. The 2019 Estes catalog is supposed to be released early March according to the Langford and Stine interview on The Rocketry Show so we’ll see soon.

    3. Well, having now seen the Saturn V in the new catalog I must admit I'm surprised at the price of $70. That is too steep for my taste.

  2. I notice that there appears to be an SR-71 and Boeing ALCM pictured in that "family picture" -- not sure if these are the kits or the RTF versions.
Wouldn't be surprised if they've had folks asking for X-15 (I don't recall if there was a RTF version aside the one from Cox, and the chubby-looking "almost-a-Goony" kit version).

    1. Hi Naoto,
The SR-71 looks to be the bigger kit version. If memory serves, the Estes Boeing ALCM only came as a small plastic RTF.
Estes had their first Mini Engine ARTF X-15 in 1973 - http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/catalogs/estes73/73est8.html
The second Estes plastic ARTF X-15 (18mm engine version) might have been the Cox rocket. That one was recalled.
I've seen the chubby X-15 in the 1988 catalog.

    2. I do remember the Centuri kit of the Boeing ALCM from the late 1980s, which came out around the same time as their Fighter Fleet series of kits (I do remember first hearing about the kits in Flying Models magazine) -- didn't know about the Estes ALCM kit until someone showed me an example.

(not sure if Estes kit was simply a reissue of the Centuri kit, a reissue with some modification, or perhaps one that had been developed in parallel - have neither to be able to be able to compare).

IIRC, Centuri had an even bigger SR-71 kit used 24mm motor.
