Semroc Aerobee-Hi KV-2 Build, Background

This first model rocket kit was produced in April, 1958 by Model Missiles Inc.
The picture above shows the 50th anniversary kit box produced by Quest Aerospace.
This next blog build will be the Semroc Retro-Repro kit, now out of production.

Some history from the Semroc instructions:
The first production models of the MMI Aerobee-Hi were produced with hand turned maple nose cones. Later production models used a soft vinyl nose cone. A parallel wound body tube was lined inside with a thin aluminum motor mount at the bottom and several wraps of manila paper in the upper section to protect from the ejection gases.
The early versions used the 11/16" x 2.5" Rock-A-Chute motors.
The MMI Kit 001 sold for $7.95 and included the Aerobee-Hi, launcher and 6 standard Type A engines. These were slightly more powerful than a modern B6 engine and sold separately at 6 for $2.50

SPOILER ALERT:
We've all had them - A build that seems cursed!
Not meant as a bad reflection on the kit parts - Once in a while a build doesn't go as planned.
This is a 3FNCX (3 Fin- Nose Cone) build and should have been a breeze.,
I'm taking this one as far as I can before setting it aside. I do return to unfinished builds - eventually!
