Estes Tazz #7282 Build, Part 9, Engine Mount Trim TIP

Here's the engine mount, the streamer is taped to hold the end down.
The low end of the engine mount has 3/16" of bare tube exposed.
I didn't want to go through a tight masking job with the white lock ring in the way.

I sprayed some scrap peel and stick paper stock with gloss yellow.

A 3/16" wide strip was cut.
The engine hook was lifted and the strip end started under the hook.
Release the hook, continue the sticky strip around the bare tube.
Cut the end, hide it under the raised engine hook.

Here's the finished engine mount with a smooth yellow end.

  1. Does the adhesive of the peel & stick paper hold up well with exposure to heat?

    1. Hi Lonnie
It seems to be okay - so far! The engine sticks out the back about 3/8". I also switched out for a heavy wall BT-20 which will better insulate the heat of the engine casing.

    2. I think it would be OK if the self-adhesive label sheet was the type to be used in a laser printer or photocopier -- the adhesive on those sheets can better cope with the heat and pressure involved with melting the powdery toner onto the paper.

    3. Hi Everyone!:

A trick I used to use when building model airplanes was to spray a small section of white decal paper, then cut out the stripes and apply as normal with your decal film. A lot trickier to apply, but it worked ok on the model planes.

      Sincerely,
      J.W.
