New Estes "Citation" kit?

On TRF, JBlatz posted he was looking forward to the upcoming Super Big Bertha kit.

Fred Shector responded:
"We have two. And two of several other new kits (including another exciting classic kit with wondrous decalsSent to us (NAR Section 430) for the volunteer helpers at the AMA Expo West. We staff a Make & Take that is very popular."

Bob Sanford (Initiator001) added:
I hope you don't get a "citation" for mentioning that classic kit.

Let's look at the clues -
Wonderous decals, a "Citation" kit? Here's my guess . . .

  1. I'm hoping for the Starship Vega. Cool sci-fi rocket, with the metal foil decal. Would make a good blog build. Laters.

    1. I forgot - Semroc currently has a retro-repro Starship Vega kit. Wouldn't make sense for Estes to bring it back. As Gilda Radner used to say: Neevveer mind. Laters.

    2. Hi BAR,
Even if Semroc had a repro kit that doesn't stop Estes from releasing the same model. Estes brought back the Goblin a few years after Semroc did a copy. If the Citation Patriot sold well enough, Estes might also bring back the Starship Vega.

    3. Who knows? Maybe there's still hope for a Citation Quasar :^)

  2. I'd love to see a new Starship Vega but I think a Citation Patriot is much more likely. Good either way - the whole 2 - 3 foot long BT60 body tube look is right in my wheelhouse but the sci-fi style of the Vega is pretty tasty too.

    1. Hi Openroad,
Yep, I noticed the same thing. (Not that my blog post had anything to do with the Estes announcement.)

  5. Hi Overeasy,
The old Patriot water slides were big and almost covered the whole model! The gold ink decals set off the look of the kit. Estes decals are printed in China now and seem thin - be careful with the wrap-arounds on the body tube.
