Ranger Clone Build Part 14 Epoxy Fillets

In regards to the width of fin fillets, a rule of thumb (for me anyway) is:
The width of the fillet forming dowel is twice the thickness of the fin stock.

The Ranger's fins are 1/8" thick, so the fillet smoothing dowel is 1/4" diameter.

These methods are based on the epoxy tutorial by Crazy Jim on the Rocketry Forum.

A wide point Sharpie marker was used to mark the back end of a smooth dowel.
This marked end of the dowel is run down the root edge joint leaving a black guide line for the masking tape placement.

In the picture the line is DARK. The line doesn't have to be this dark and probably shouldn't be. This black line could show through the final color paint.
I marked the lines heavy to show how the masking technique is done.

Masking tape is set down the faint black mark lines.

Before applying epoxy, run the dowel down the tape edges to seal them down.

Don't press hard on the tape with the dowel, you don't want to scar the balsa!
