Ranger Clone Build Part 6 Engine Mount

The old "Tissue-Glue Putty" won't do on this clone!
Here's a better way to block the ejection charge from going out the back.

The engine mount kit included a plywood disk with three holes cut in it.
I wanted to show how to adapt a more standard 50/60 centering ring for an ejection charge block.

You could use a heavy card stock centering ring for this, but I wanted something stronger. I found a 1/8" thick plywood 50/60 centering ring in my parts box.

The three engine mount tubes were centered over the ring and a light pencil line drawn around the three tubes. BT-5 tubes were centered in those light line circles. These darker circles were drawn around the BT-5s.

220 grit sandpaper was wrapped around a dowel.
Sanding to the pencil lines didn't take as long as I thought.

In the end this gives a very good gluing surface for the ring. It is glued to the engine blocks and end edges of the BT-20 tubes.

The ring is glued to the engine blocks and the end of the engine mount tubes.

You can see there is still some gaps where the ejection charge could go out the back of the model. The gaps will be covered in the next post.
