Ranger Clone Build Part 9 Primer and Sand

After sanding down the primer on the nose cone, you can see where it was left in the small shallow areas. This is the seam area where the medium CA was sanded to surface.

Before this primer was shot, the body tube seams got some CWF, a thicker mix than was brushed on the fins.
Some builders will shoot as much as three lighter coats of primer, sanding between coats.
I tend to shoot one heavier coat and sand almost all of it off.
For me, I'll go right to a white undercoat over this blotchy, sanded primer.
Others spray an overall final gray primer coat and lightly sand.

There hasn't been a problem with white coverage over a body tube like the one shown here. I'm also concerned about weight. Too much primer can really weigh down a model.

This is the fins after filling and priming.
The fin on the right is before sanding off the single, heavier primer coat.
On the left is a fin after sanding the primer to surface.

  1. Chris, is the BT above an example of alternating white/gray primer sanded down really well? IE, that's not the white of BT. Thanks, Phil.

    1. Hi Scadaman,
That is only the gray Duplicolor filler/primer sanded down. That was a white tube, not a brown one.
